FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) is a deeply concerning and harmful practice that continues to affect millions of girls and women around the world. Also known as female circumcision or cutting, FGM involves the partial or total removal of external female genitalia, often carried out without proper medical care or informed consent.
It is recognised as a human right violation and harms women and girls in many ways and has no health benefits.
Some communities and culture think FGM helps girls and women by getting them ready for marriage or protecting their virginity
This traditional practice is rooted in cultural beliefs and misconceptions, falsely perpetuating notions of purity, chastity, and societal acceptance.
However, FGM has severe physical, emotional, and psychological consequences for those who undergo it. Immediate complications can include severe pain, infection, hemorrhaging, and even death, while long-term effects encompass chronic pain, complications during childbirth, and psychological trauma.
It is essential to raise awareness about FGM to eradicate this harmful practice and protect the rights and well-being of girls and women worldwide.
By promoting awareness, understanding, and empathy, we can strive to end FGM and support women’s empowerment, ensuring a world where all individuals are treated with dignity, respect, and equality.
FGM Community Ambassador Training is a vital initiative aimed at empowering individuals within communities affected by or at risk of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The training equips participants with knowledge, skills, and resources to become advocates against FGM, raise awareness, and foster positive change within their communities.
By empowering individuals through FGM Community Ambassador Training, the goal is to create a network of change agents who can drive the abandonment of FGM within their communities, ultimately contributing to the global movement to end this harmful practice and protect the rights and well-being of women and girls.
